Weeks of monsoon rain have pushed the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries over their banks across Assam in northeast India. Officials say 100 people have died, more than 700,000 have been displaced since July, and around 49,000 are still living in 125 relief camps. Sivasagar district is among the worst affected. Whole villages have been swept away or buried in silt, and families now returning home face rebuilding their lives from the ground up, often with crops and cattle gone. We pray for the people of Assam — for every family in the camps and every family returning home — and for the rescuers, boatmen and relief workers labouring beside them, that homes may rise again and the valley may soon be green with new harvests.
