Days of relentless monsoon rain have swollen the Brahmaputra River in India's northeastern state of Assam, killing at least 50 people and displacing 700,000. Nearly 900 villages are submerged, and close to 300,000 people have taken shelter in government relief camps, while helicopters airdrop food to communities cut off by the water. Behind each number is a family that watched a lifetime of work vanish in hours — homes, harvests, and cattle swept away by the rising river. In Guwahati, a city of two million, commuters waded through waist-deep streets. We pray for the families mourning loved ones, for the farmers and villagers who have lost everything, and for the police, disaster teams, and volunteers ferrying neighbours to safety. May the waters recede, may food and shelter reach every camp, and may the people of Assam rebuild in strength and hope.
