On Saturday night, a van was driven into crowds celebrating Berlin's Christopher Street Day Pride festival at Tiergarten park, near the Brandenburg Gate. One woman was killed and at least 29 people were injured, some by knife wounds, among the hundreds of thousands who had gathered. The suspect was later killed during a police operation. A night of joy and celebration became one of fear and grief. A family has lost a loved one, dozens lie injured in hospital, and a city that prides itself on openness is shaken. We pray for the woman who died and all who mourn her, for the injured and the frightened, and for the police officers, paramedics, doctors and nurses who ran toward danger to help. May Berlin be comforted and drawn closer together in hope.
