On Sunday evening, 23 August, a gunman took the lives of eight members of his own family as they gathered for Sunday dinner at a home outside Billings, Montana. The victims spanned four generations, from a great-grandmother in her nineties to a seven-year-old girl, and the house was lost to fire. Four children were among those killed. Twelve-year-old Charlotte called 911 and tried to save her family; a husband and father lost his wife and children in a single evening. Neighbours say the whole city feels the loss. We pray for the surviving family and for the community of Billings; for the police officers, firefighters, chaplains and counsellors who answered the call and now carry the grieving. May comfort, healing and peace come to every heart touched by this tragedy.
