Wildfires are burning across Borneo and beyond: Indonesia's Forestry Ministry recorded nearly 12,000 fire hotspots in a single day, and some 285,000 hectares have burned this year. Choking haze has cut visibility in parts of Kalimantan to a few metres, and the smoke has drifted into Malaysia, where Sarawak closed 591 schools, keeping nearly 200,000 students at home. Behind the numbers are families breathing dangerous air day after day — children in masks, elders struggling, whole cities moving through smoke. We pray for all who live beneath the haze in Indonesia and Malaysia, for the firefighters battling the flames, and for the health workers caring for those who struggle to breathe — and we pray for clean rain, clear skies and healthy air to return.
