Torrential rain and flash floods swept north-eastern Spain overnight on Wednesday, after Spain's weather agency AEMET issued a red alert for the Barcelona coastline. On Thursday rescuers recovered the body of a man at Olivella, about forty kilometres west of Barcelona, after his car was swept away by a stream. Emergency services in Catalonia took more than 850 calls and logged over 500 incidents; Valencia province reported 478 more. Metro lines were suspended, roads submerged and flights cancelled. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez warned of "very complicated situations". The storm came less than two years after flooding in Valencia killed more than 230 people. We pray for the family of the man who died at Olivella, for households drying out their homes tonight, and for the firefighters and emergency crews of Catalonia and Valencia.
