The Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has passed 2,000 deaths, with some 4,400 confirmed cases across five provinces. The World Health Organization said this week that the epidemic, declared on 15 May, is on track to become the deadliest in history, and the virus has now reached displacement camps in Ituri province. The camps shelter families who have already fled conflict, many without clean water or sanitation, and there is not yet an approved vaccine for this rare strain of the virus. We pray for the sick and their families, for the displaced now facing a second trial, and for the doctors, nurses and vaccinators working to turn the tide — may healing spread faster than the virus, and may this outbreak be brought to an end.
