Yet hope has arrived: the first 16,250 of 70,000 promised vaccine doses landed in Kinshasa on Friday night. Behind the numbers are families and villages transformed by loss; Save the Children reports that at least 180 children have lost both parents or caregivers. Fifty thousand doses will now go to the front-line health workers who risk everything.
