Typhoon Saudel made its third landfall on China's east coast on Thursday, 3 September, coming ashore in Fujian province after twice lashing neighbouring Zhejiang. Floodwaters swept away cars and brought down buildings as the storm arrived overnight. Around 247,700 people had been evacuated, schools in Fuzhou and Quanzhou were closed and 24 ferry routes suspended, as the province warned of flash floods and landslides amid persistent, heavy rain. It is the latest blow in a punishing typhoon season for China's coast. Hundreds of thousands of families are waiting out the rain, unsure what they will return to. We pray for the people of Fujian and Zhejiang, for those sheltering in evacuation centres and those whose homes stand in the path of the floods, and for the rescue crews, boat teams and relief workers out in the storm. May the rains ease, the rivers hold, and every family return safely home.
