Tropical Storm Moke is passing Hawaii, forecast to dump as much as ten to fifteen inches of rain on the Big Island - the same communities devastated by Hurricane Lala just over a week ago. The hurricane took two lives, washed out roads, triggered mudslides, and left more than 6,500 homes still without power as Moke arrived. Families who had only begun to clear the mud are sheltering once more, watching saturated hillsides and swollen streams. County shelters are open, and residents have been asked to stay off the roads. We pray for the weary families of the Big Island and all Hawaii's islands, and for the rescuers, road crews and line workers who labour between the storms - that the rains may pass gently and the islands be restored.
