Late on Sunday night, armed men from the Viv Ansanm gang coalition descended on Kenscoff, a farming community in the cool hills above Port-au-Prince, Haiti. At least thirty people were killed, and homes and a church were set alight. One farmer lost fourteen loved ones; others are still searching for the missing. Kenscoff's mountain gardens have long fed the capital. Across Haiti, gang violence has displaced 1.5 million people and taken more than 3,100 lives in the first half of this year. Behind each number is a family in mourning. We pray for the bereaved, the missing and the wounded, and for the police, peacekeepers, doctors and neighbours who guard and comfort this community - that Kenscoff may know safety, and its gardens be tended in peace again.
