Russian missiles struck Kyiv and its surrounding region overnight on Wednesday in a barrage lasting some two hours, killing 17 people and wounding dozens. Ukraine's air defences, critically short of interceptors for their US-made Patriot systems, were unable to shoot down a single ballistic missile. Families were asleep when the missiles came. President Zelenskyy said ballistic interceptors "could have saved the lives of those killed today"; supplies this year have fallen to a third of last year's level, leaving millions of civilians exposed beneath open skies. We pray for the bereaved and injured of the Kyiv region, for the rescue crews searching the rubble, and for the peacemakers and leaders who can end this war — that protection may reach those who need it, and that peace may come at last.
