On Wednesday afternoon a gunman opened fire inside an apartment building in downtown Minneapolis, near Loring Park. Two people were killed and five others were wounded by gunfire, among them two police officers who reached the building within two minutes of the first call. The gunman also died. It was an ordinary late-summer afternoon in a neighbourhood of homes; within minutes, families across the city were waiting anxiously for news of their loved ones. We pray for the families of the two who died, for the wounded and their full recovery, and for the officers, paramedics, doctors and counsellors who ran towards the danger and now care for the hurt. May Minneapolis be comforted and made whole.
