After a month without military action, the United States and Iran are trading fire again around the Strait of Hormuz. Shrapnel from a US missile strike hit a home hosting a wedding celebration in Sirik, southern Iran - the Iranian Red Crescent says five people were killed, among them a child, and more than fifty were injured. Iran has answered with missiles and drones aimed at bases in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain and Iraq; Jordan intercepted thirteen, and no further deaths have been reported. Every exchange raises the danger of open war on a strait that carries a fifth of the world's oil - yet Qatar and Oman are still mediating, and the door to peace remains open. We pray for the grieving and the wounded of Sirik, for every family living beneath these skies, and for the peacemakers labouring between the nations. May those in power be inspired by their higher selves, and may peace prevail upon the waters.
