Health officials in Pennsylvania announced on Tuesday that two people have died of measles in Lancaster County, the first deaths from the virus in the United States this year. Pennsylvania has recorded 393 cases in 2026, and with 2,777 confirmed cases nationwide the country is enduring its worst year for measles in thirty-five years. Behind the numbers are grieving families, sick children and anxious parents, in communities where this illness had not been seen for a generation. We pray for the loved ones of those who have died, for all who are ill and for their families; and for the doctors, nurses and public health workers labouring to care for the sick and halt the spread. May healing and wellness return to Lancaster County and to every affected community.
