Seven people were killed early on Saturday in a head-on collision on the A66 near Middlesbrough in northeast England. Cleveland Police said a car travelling the wrong way down the road struck a marked police vehicle at 3:39am. Two police constables, Tom Clough, 38, and Matthew Blades, 37, died alongside the five occupants of the other car, three of them still teenagers. Two young sons have lost their father. Five families have lost sons and brothers. A whole town has been left laying flowers at the roadside. We pray for the seven who died and for everyone who loved them, for the officers and paramedics who came to that road before dawn, and for the colleagues now carrying the weight of it. May comfort reach each home, and may light return to this community in time.
