On Friday morning, a 14-year-old student opened fire at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, near Bangkok, Thailand, killing five teachers and staff before taking his own life; a fellow student later died of her injuries. Earlier that morning he had shot his grandparents at the home they shared. Twenty-three people were wounded, ten of them critically, and were taken to nearby Bangyai Hospital. The school is home to some 3,000 children aged twelve to eighteen. Students hid in classrooms as the shots rang out, and a nation with deep reverence for its teachers now grieves with the families. Classes are suspended, and Thailand's prime minister has pledged stricter gun laws. We pray for the bereaved families, for the wounded and the doctors and nurses caring for them, and for the counsellors and all entrusted with keeping children safe — may comfort and hope return to Nonthaburi.
