More than 112,000 people have been displaced in Yemen, most of them in the past two weeks, the UN migration agency IOM said on Friday. The flight spans Aden, Hudaydah, Abyan and Taiz, and began when fighting flared along the Red Sea coast. Nearly 3,000 Yemenis have crossed the Bab al-Mandeb Strait by boat to Djibouti, more than 2,400 of them in the past week, mostly women, children and older people, according to UNHCR. IOM says 22 million Yemenis, nearly half the population, now need humanitarian aid, and that its own stocks will be depleted very soon. UNFPA counts about 2,000 pregnant women among the displaced, some 200 of them expected to give birth shortly. One woman in Taiz gave birth in the open, without shelter or care. We pray for every family now under canvas or on the water, for the mothers who will give birth in these weeks, and for the aid workers of Yemen and Djibouti whose supplies are running out. May help arrive swiftly, and may the world open its hands.
