For six days running, torrential rain has battered the American Midwest. Rivers have burst their banks across Indiana and Ohio after rainfall described as a once-in-a-thousand-year event, and at least three people have died this week, among them a four-year-old boy. Hundreds of families have been driven from their homes, and millions remain under flood watches as more rain approaches. Whole neighbourhoods stand in water. The Indiana National Guard has been mobilised, rescue boats are working street by street, and a federal emergency declaration has been requested. We pray for every family watching the waters rise, and for the rescue crews, guardsmen and neighbours sheltering one another. May the rains ease, the waters recede, and every home be restored.
