Two people have died in Istanbul after what the city's governor, Davut Gul, said was the heaviest rainfall in 84 years. BBC Turkish reports that a 14-year-old boy was electrocuted when he stepped in a puddle, and that a 34-year-old man slipped while crossing the road and hit his head. The governorship is investigating the boy's death. Deputy mayor Nuri Aslan said 595 people had been evacuated to safety after becoming trapped, and that more than 8,000 workers were responding. Some districts recorded rainfall equivalent to one seventh of the annual average, the interior minister said. Schools are closed on Thursday and Friday, 46 aircraft could not land, roads have collapsed and a river has burst its banks. The rain is forecast to continue. We pray for the two families who have lost someone, for everyone still in the flooded districts, and for the crews working through the night.
