Shortly before midnight on Sunday, fire engulfed the Na Ladprao beer hall in northern Bangkok, Thailand. At least 27 people died and 63 were taken to hospital, 22 of them in critical condition. A musician described smoke rising from a circuit breaker before the power failed and thick smoke filled the hall within moments. In the darkness, many could not find their way out; most of the victims were found near the restrooms at the back of the hall. Families waited through the night at the scene for news of their loved ones, while musicians mourned bandmates who had been performing on stage. We pray for the grieving families of Bangkok, for the injured fighting for their lives, and for the firefighters, nurses and rescuers who answered the call. May those who mourn be comforted, and may the wounded be restored to health and hope.
