The passenger ferry MV June Aster left Manila with 117 passengers and 17 crew and was about an hour from Coron, on the Philippine island of Palawan, when fire broke out at 18:45 on Wednesday. The coastguard says five people have died, 86 are missing and 43 have been rescued, with seven survivors taken to hospital in Culion. Families are keeping watch at hospitals and evacuation centres. Anelyn Magbanua waits for news of her husband Marlon; relatives have made posters appealing for word of Mae Lorraine Galera-Navoa, her husband Elyzer and their three-year-old daughter Hiraya Joy, who were travelling home to El Nido. We pray for every soul still missing on the water, for the survivors and the injured, and for the coastguard crews, divers and local boatmen searching the sea off Palawan. May the missing be found, and may every waiting family be comforted.
