Malaysia has finalised the first phase of a programme that will return at least 1,500 Rohingya refugees to Myanmar on 29 September, part of an agreed 5,000, despite warnings from rights groups that return is not safe. More than 10,000 Myanmar nationals are held in detention depots, while a wave of hostility has seen Rohingya families evicted from villages and community schools closed; after one eviction near Penang, 120 people - more than half of them children - sheltered outside the UN refugee agency in Kuala Lumpur. More than 126,000 Rohingya live in Malaysia, a stateless people who fled persecution and now fear there is nowhere left to go. We pray for every Rohingya family, for the aid workers and teachers beside them, and for wisdom and mercy in those who decide their fate. May every family one day walk home in safety.
