Typhoon Noul made landfall near the town of Pinghai in Guangdong province, southern China, early on Sunday, July 26 — the strongest typhoon to strike China this year, with sustained winds of 162 km/h. More than 340,000 people were relocated in Guangdong, all train services in the province were halted, and around 350 flights were cancelled at Hong Kong's airport, where nine people were injured and over 100 trees fell. Noul is the third typhoon to hit China this month, in a season of storms that has already claimed dozens of lives across the south. In the same waters, rescuers are searching for 23 sailors missing after the Vietnamese cargo ship Khoi Nguyen 18 sank near Fiery Cross Reef; 39 crew members have been pulled from the sea. We pray for the families sheltering from the wind and rain, for the sailors still missing and the rescue crews searching for them, and for all who will return to damaged homes.
